The Measurement Practices Committee is pleased to announce a significantly-improved version 1.3 of this Guideline. It may be downloaded from here.
The Guideline has been enhanced in several ways:
- A new rule has been introduced that defines how to identify and distinguish data groups and objects of interest in the input, processing or output phases of a single functional process. The rule is particularly intended to help analyse and measure complex output reports. It will be added to the next version 4.0.2 of the Measurement Manual.
- The Guideline is now in line with version 4.0.1 of the method and should be compatible with version 4.0.2 (which will have further minor improvements) when the Measurement Manual is next updated.
- Some new examples have been added and all examples are now presented in a standard format for ease of understanding.
- Only one correction was needed from the previous version 1.2; many other editorial improvements have been made for ease of understanding.
We must emphasise that when updating to versions 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 of the COSMIC method, no changes have or will be made to the existing functional sizing principles or rules.
