It is important for acceptance of the COSMIC software sizing method that it is understood and accepted as valuable in a wider community than just software metrics experts. This wider community includes CIO’s, IT project managers, requirements analysts, proponents of methods such as Agile, etc., and notably accountants and lawyers who draw up contracts for outsourced IT services and for the development and support of software.

Charles Symons, one of the COSMIC founders, has teamed up with a UK lawyer specialising in IT contracts and dispute resolution, Richard Stephens, to write an article on the need to adopt ‘unit-pricing’ in software contracts, i.e. buying software on a price-per-unit size basis. The article is is entitled ‘Towards a New IT Model Contract: Changing the Pricing Method. It is available on the web-site of the UK Society for Computers and Law at http://www.scl.org/site.aspx?i=ed47003 and in the Knowledge Base via http://cosmic-sizing.org/publications/towards-new-model-contract-changing-pricing-method/‎.
